Bring Fast food restaurants to cafetrias
Despite the availability of school lunches, many students continue to either ask their parents to bring them fast food for lunch or go out themselves. Because students tend to prefer fast food meals over cafeteria school lunches, it would be beneficial for the school and the students' health if the school system brought in lunch options from different fast food restaurants, such as McDonald's, Subway, Pizza Hut, Saladworks, Taco Bell, and Panda Express. By bringing in these fast food restaurants for lunch, it will give students a wider variety of lunches and types of food to choose from.
Not only will the students love having these options, it will be better for their health. Many of the meats provided to students through the school lunch system doesn't necessarily meet the standards set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. McDonald's, Burger King, and Costco, are more rigorous in checking for bacteria and dangerous pathogens. They test their ground beef five to ten times more often than the USDA tests the beef made for schools during a typical production day. J. Glenn Morris says that our students do not receive the same level quality and safety of food as you get when you go to many fast-food restaurants because schools are not using the same standards. This shows that having fast food lunches will be better than the food provided currently by the cafeterias. In addition to the meats, if students have options such as Saladworks and Subway, it gives them the opportunity to eat fresh vegetables and make healthier choices. This way more students will buy lunch at school because of these better quality lunch options. By providing lunches from fast food chains in schools, not only will it increase school lunch participation, but improve student health because it is healthier than the cafeteria food.
